Wind powered rocket

Today we made a wind  powered rocket but first we needed to know what pressure was and what compression meant. 

Pressure means when the weight or force that is made when something presses or pushes against something else. 

Compression means the action of being squished down or made smaller. 

We used our knowledge of these new words and created our own rockets following the instructions very carefully. Here is how we created our rockets. 

 

Matriles 

Cardboard

Bambo skewers

Duct tape

Ballon

Straw

     

1. Cut out 4 Wheels 

2.Push sharp end of skewer though centre of each wheel to make a hole.To make a tiny hole. Then remove.

3.Cut skewer to allow 1 cm hangover each side of cardboard.

4.Tape straw 2cm in from end of frame. (2 strips on each axel) Make sure axels are parallel.

5.Cut ring off end ballon.

6.Tape ballon tightly on straw.

7.Tape straw and balloon.

8.Balloon needs to be resting on frame.

9.allow 10cm overhang with straw.

10.put  wheels  onto axels remarrying to keep the centre hole tight and small

11.use straw and inflate ballon

12.place on flat surface and inflate ballon

The art show

These art pieces are really cool this year, all the art is of a really high standard. Our personal faviroute is the BFG section and of course our very own artwork which focussed on the olympics. The inter-school speech competition

The speech competition was really hard but fun and I can't believe I won! I got a zoo family pass for my prize! Now I'm going to go to the champion of champions competition and I'm really nervous but also really excited. I hope I get a good result when the time comes.

Kia ora room 2! Like I promised you, here is a picture of Miss Schnackenberg and I as we left Auckland yesterday night. At the moment we are in Hong Kong, before I head off to Scotland to meet my mum!

Jane and the dragon

A book trailer is a trailer for a book to get people to read the book.in our group was Vaughan,Nadia, Shadiya Gordon and Kirstin.  It was really fun to do an iMovie together. We enjoyed it because it was really fun to work with each other.  It was really challenging for us to do the iMovie in a very short time.

A book trailer is a trailer when you are doing a trailer for a book.

In our trailer we had Ane,Rana,Angela,Ayesha,and Quaid.

We loved doing our imovie because everyone was laughing at Quaid and Rana when they were fake fighting for the iMovie.

It was so challenging because we had to keep recording Quaid and Rana fake fighting for the iMovie.

A bad case of stripes

We are doing a book trailer. If you don't know what it is , a book trailer is something that introduces the book but doesn't give  everything away.When you make a book trailer it's just like making a movie trailer but it's about a book.In our group we have Isaac,Awanya,Brontay,Ashmit and William.Making this book trailer was a good experience for all of us because we get a chance to feel how it is to make one.we all enjoyed it very much and it was a lot of fuuuuuun.It was pretty challenging because it was our first time making a book trailer and maybe it might help us in our future lives and other educational things.

The cat in the hat trailer

A book trailer is a trailer advertising a book and it doesn't give away that much information.The people in our group are Rachael,Ezekiel,Paea,Monica,Ranay and Yinnara .It was really fun doing all the scenes but it was hard gathering our group to do the scenes!.Our group enjoyed making the scenes because they got to add some of their ideas to our trailer which made our trailer awesome!!.It was challenging for us because we had to reshoot the scenes with the cat in the hat and because our group was mucking around.🤗

Spirt of hope

It was amazing we worked really well together,we got to to have fun there were a lot of disagreements,but we got through it we got to learn more and about each other it was a good experience.

Yes It was challenging,for girls to work with boys because we all know how boys are sometimes,but we got along.

Speech contest

Today we were standing up there with glossophobia. We were absolutely petrified. But we both did really well. Kirstin got 1st place and Brontay got a participation award. Kirstins topic was how to annoy your older sister and Brontays one was public speaking.we are really proud of ourselves and we really enjoyed the experience of being in the speech competition and we really hade fun!

Room 2s awesome strand maths lesson

Hi it's Brontay and Kirstin and we're here to tell you about our awesome strand maths session. We did different varieties of things like measurement. We were measuring certain amounts of water in to measuring cups and was seeing if it was the right amount. We were also using clocks to make the right times. Our favourites were measuring certain objects in to some awesome scales. There were two sets of scales one of them we had to make one kg with a variety of thing. The other set of scales we had to measure things and how much it weighs some of the objects that we measured were a pencil a piece of fruit a pencil case a dictionary x2 glue sticks and heaps more.

Father's Day card

 Lee and Jamie wanted to buy there farther a farthers day card. The farthers day card cost $5.95. So  we  took  away 35 cents away from 5.95 and that would= 5.60 so next we divide 5.60 by 2 which = 2.80. So we knew that Jamie put $2.80 in and lee had put $3.15

What Rm2 knows about the number 48

Today we shared somethings that we know about the number 48 we had some great things written up on the board,like always Miss Varcoe was very happy with all the ideas that Rm 2 and I shared.Even though their were double ups Miss Varcoe still loved all of the knowledge that we know about the number 48.🤔😊

Room 2 s answers and questions on the lorax story by dr Seuss

This week we started a K.W.H.L.A.Q . Room 2 were having fun but we forgot what we knew about the lorax story so we thought hard and rembered what we know so we did a brainstorm and wrote down everything we rembered. Next we wrote down that we will find out on a iPad. After that we walked around and asked a lot of people questions  and got really fantastic answers. 2nd to last we wrote a paragraph about what we think about our questions. Lastly we made an iMovie and we will show  you enjoy

My dogs

We find out that the answer is one dog is 9 another is 5 and the other dog is 1.The question said that if  you add their ages together you will get 15 and if you  multiply their ages it will add up to 45.we knew that 5+9+1=15 and 5 x 9 = 45 and 45x1=45.

Sharing our knowledge

Today we shared some of our math knowledge with the classroom.Our teacher Miss Varcoe was very impressed with all our ideas and she was so happy because kids in our class seem to not stop putting up their hands to share their knowledge with the class.

For out basic facts, Miss Varcoe gives us a number (9 today) and we have to use the other numbers to make that number. We can add, subtract, times, or divide to get to that number. Today we found 14!! strategies to make 9.

Room 2 art

This term for art we made a sunrise. Each step of the way we tried our hardest, and we used paint, die, flowers ,pastels and vividly. We made a sun, mountains,flowers,an ocean.The order that we did it in was draw the sun mountains and the sea, paint the ocean coloured the mountains with pastles, glue flowers on the sea and then we used vivid to draw things on the sea. We had a lot of fun and it was amazing how much people finished it turned out to be an awesome art.

Miss Varcoe's Sustainable Weekend!

On Saturday the 28th of May, my best friend Kat and I went to the local park to help plant trees. I saw a sign there recently saying they wanted some local people to help plant some trees. It turns out that every year the Auckland Council plants around 500 trees in this park alone! It's so great to know that our Council is working hard to keep planting lots of trees to look after our environment! Kat and I had a great time helping - there ended up being about 20-30 people there helping plant the trees. 

Planting weekends are happening all around the city every weekend. They're a great way to get out with the family (kids are allowed to go too) and it's free! I've attached a list of places and dates in case you want to go to one with your family!

Tim's trip

Tim left at 6:00. We had to figure out how long Tim had at his grandmas house.  He wanted to be back home to his house to watch his favourite tv show by 7:00pm.   On the way to his grandma's house there are hills so he can go 14 kph .  But on the way back he can go 21 kph.So we figured out that he can spend 10 minutes with his grandma and he will have 50 minutes to get there and back .by Rana and Kirsten
